Phil Irons – It’s all about the detail
In my day job I'm a professional designer who has worked in the creative industry for over 30 years. More recently I have picked up my pencils again and rediscovered my love of drawing, producing some intricately detailed work with a focus on buildings and architecture.
I find drawing therapeutic and can get lost for hours in the detail. I am inspired by my surroundings and very much in my element in an old boat yard or derelict site; my camera and sketch book are always with me - never wanting to miss an opportunity to capture the beauty of a dilapidated building or rusty, corrugated roof!
My 'doorways' collection was born in the recent lockdowns where, during daily walks around my home town Penryn, I was inspired by the beautiful doorways that I passed - people are always delighted when they see their own doorway in the collection.
I have exhibited for the Pastel Society and the Society of Graphic Fine Arts and also locally at the Poly in Falmouth and the Carbon Gallery in Penryn.
