Hi, my name is Phil Irons, Welcome to my website!
Not your usual artist biography this I'm afraid....
I never went to art college or studied fine art at Uni.
As a child I did like to draw though, spaceships mainly, oh and made up maps of non-existent lands.
Anyway I pretty much gave up art for a time (though I do have a career in graphic design). In my 30's and 40's I had a bit of a go with watercolours, then acrylic, then back to watercolours, never oils..too scary!
Then a couple of years back I bought myself a set of decent pencils. I had noticed a really attractive building in a local town which I really wanted to have a go at drawing.
So I did, and was hooked. I think it's what you call 'finding your medium'.
What inspires me? Anything interesting really. I'm trying to vary my subject matter so it could be a specific building, a wider landscape, urban, rural, old, new, whatever. Sometimes you just see something that is crying out to be tackled with a set of pencils.
So a few drawings in and encouraged by some very kind comments on social media alongside a very surprising appearance in The Pastel Society Exhibition I've launched this website.
Thanks for looking me up, I hope you find something that interests you.
Phil
